British researchers, in a new study have found an interesting relation between Vitamin D and rate of COVID-19 deaths.
Researcher Dr Lee Smith from Anglia Ruskin University in the UK quoted, “We found a significant crude relationship between vitamin D levels and the number of COVID-19 cases. Vitamin D modulates the response of white blood cells, preventing them from releasing too many inflammatory cytokines. The COVID-19 is known to cause an excess of inflammatory cytokines.”
Previous observational studies have reported relation between low Vitamin D and susceptibility to acute respiratory tract infections.
