The Supreme Court on Thursday, July 18, 2024, directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to release the results of all candidates who appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024 on May 5.
A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud declared that they instructed the NTA to publish the marks obtained by students in the UG-2024 NEET examination without disclosing their identities. The results should be declared by the city and center by 12 noon on July 20, 2024, and should be uploaded on the NTA website.
The bench included CJI D Y Chandrachud, Justices J B Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra. While the top court will continue the hearing on Monday, July 22, 2024, the Bench has set a deadline of 12 pm on July 20, 2024 for the NTA to upload the results of all NEET UG candidates.
Upon hearing the direction, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that while the results could be published, releasing them center-wise would be problematic. He told the bench that there are coaching centers, there are several issues. However, the Chief Justice of India insisted that including the center names was important.
CJI Chandrachud said that they need to conclude the matter by Monday, July 22, 2024. The reason they engaged in a detailed inquiry is that there was a leak, at least in Patna and Hazaribagh. The question papers had been disseminated before the exam, that’s undeniable.
This directive was issued after Adv Hooda, representing the lead petitioners, argued that the candidates are at a disadvantage because neither the CBI status report has been shared with them nor have the complete results been published.
