On Tuesday, the Supreme Court requested responses from the National Medical Commission (NMC) and a government medical college in Madhya Pradesh for the complaint from foreign medical graduates about not receiving stipends during their internship. Justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta acknowledged the argument made by lawyer Tanvi Dubey, representing five doctors with degrees from foreign medical colleges, asking to treat those on a par with the students who completed MBBS in Indian institutions.
The court also issued notices to the Madhya Pradesh Medical Council, NMC, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College, Vidisha, based on the plea filed by the five medical graduates including Sajith SL of Thiruvananthapuram. The hearing is scheduled for March 11.
