According to a news report in Namasthe Telangana, the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) has announced a groundbreaking reform in undergraduate degree courses, aiming to bridge the gap between education and employability. The new framework introduces a three-stage structure: theory-based learning in the first year, skill-building in the second year, and experiential learning in the third year. This innovative approach is set to transform degree programs across the state.
Acknowledging that many students currently graduate without securing jobs, TGCHE plans to replace outdated classroom teaching methods with industry-relevant education. A common curriculum framework and credit system will be introduced across all public universities by March 2025, with implementation beginning in June. The new curriculum will include up to 30% changes to align with industry needs, ensuring that students gain practical skills and hands-on experience.
From the third semester onward, students will be taught skills tailored to industry requirements. Internships will be mandatory as part of the curriculum, and vocational education modules will also be introduced. To foster entrepreneurship, innovation hubs and industry-specific clusters will be established at T-Hub and IKP Knowledge Park.
Special Education Zones (SEZs) will be created in educationally backward districts to reduce regional disparities. Collaboration with foreign universities will enable dual and joint degree programs, supported by the establishment of international relations offices in universities.
Additionally, online UG and PG programs will become widely accessible, with internships ensuring students can “earn while they learn.” The state also aims to move away from its heavy reliance on scholarships by forging agreements with international universities to offer better opportunities for students.
These reforms mark a significant step toward creating a future-ready workforce and positioning Telangana as a hub for high-quality, employment-oriented education.
