Remember the times of bulky CRT TVs? They were huge, heavy, consumed a lot of power and most importantly, they lacked premium appeal. Thankfully, with the introduction of latest technologies, they became a thing of the past. Things even got better and today we are witnessing the foldable and transparent OLED TVs which made this technology even more exciting to explore.
A transparent TV is a television that you can see through. This may sound like something from science fiction, but they’re real and are becoming more common.
LG has unveiled the world’s first wireless, transparent OLED TV, named the Signature OLED T (T for transparent), at CES 2024 (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas.
The LG OLED T is a massive 77 inches. But when it’s turned off, it simply blends with the environment and makes you forget it’s even there. In fact, that’s one of the reasons why you can place it anywhere you want, unlike a traditional TV that typically has to go in front of a wall. The OLED T can even be placed in front of a window without obstructing your view. The TV is fully wireless, so you don’t have to worry about sockets, either. The Zero Connect Box that the TV ships with also doesn’t need any wires between itself and the screen.
Are Transparent TVs worth buying?
Transparent TVs are, no doubt, the latest and greatest thing in TV technology. They deliver a higher quality viewing experience with their transparent screens that have no glare or reflections.
Transparent TVs are made possible by two major see-through display technologies: LCD and OLED.
OLED displays are made of a couple of layers of transparent plastic sandwiched between two layers of glass, consisting of emissive and conductible layers. Electrical impulses travel through the conductive layer and produce light at the emissive layer.
OLED screens aren’t naturally transparent, as is the case with LCD screens but TV manufacturers favour OLEDs over LCDs because they don’t require additional lighting. OLEDs produce their own light, which allows the screens to be much thinner.
LED TVs hold a major chunk of the TV market but the more premium, improved technology are OLED TVs. Organic light emitting diodes, also known as OLED can produce an exceptional picture quality and with their bold designs, they instantly mesmerise.
