The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) on Sunday postponed the Group 1 and Group 2(A) Mains written examinations just hours before they were scheduled to begin, citing technical glitches. The sudden decision left thousands of candidates distressed across the state.
Several aspirants staged protests outside examination centres in Chennai, alleging negligence and mismanagement by authorities. Chaos was reported at multiple venues after candidates were either denied entry or directed to incorrect centres due to errors in examination hall allocations.
In an official statement, TNPSC said it was unable to conduct the examinations at three centres in Chennai due to technical issues. “Considering the welfare of aspirants, the examination has been postponed across Tamil Nadu. A fresh date will be announced soon,” the commission said.
The Group 2 and Group 2A examinations are being conducted to fill 828 vacancies in various state government departments. Around 9,000 candidates were scheduled to appear for the test.
The postponement triggered strong political reactions, with opposition parties targeting the ruling DMK government. AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami termed the incident “unprecedented” and alleged administrative failure, pointing to irregularities in hall tickets and examination centres.
TVK chief Vijay also criticised the government, stating that the sudden cancellation raised serious concerns and demanded transparency and accountability. He alleged that the move could be an attempt to cover up larger irregularities linked to the examination process.
Candidates have urged TNPSC to announce revised dates at the earliest and ensure better coordination to prevent a recurrence of such issues.
