COVID-19 has given a lot of push for e-learning and online degrees. In congruence with the current need, UGC might finalize a proposal where some more universities would be able to provide online degrees.
A proposal states that university which fulfils one of the two criterion – NAAC 3.01 and above CGPA or among the top 100 NIRF rankings will be allowed to offer online degrees.
Once this move is allowed, it will significantly improve access to the higher education for students across all the sections.
The govt had earlier announced that institutions featured in top 100 NIRF Ranking all be allowed to offer online programmes.
The increase of university count from 100 to 230 will have a significant impact on Higher Education scenario.
