On June 19th, the Ministry of Education ordered the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), just one day after it was held. This decision comes amid controversy surrounding the NEET medical entrance exam, which is currently under Supreme Court review.
According to the Ministry of Education, the cancellation was prompted by inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), which indicated potential compromises in the exam’s integrity.
According to the Ministry of Education, the decision has been made to cancel the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination to ensure the highest level of transparency and integrity in the examination process. A new examination will be scheduled, with details to be provided separately. Additionally, the matter is being referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (C.B.I.) for a thorough investigation.
Departing from previous practices, this time the National Eligibility Test (NET) was conducted in a pen-and-paper format. About 81% of the 11.21 lakh registered candidates appeared for the exam, which was held in 317 cities across the country.
