University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Jagadesh Kumar announced on 29th April 2024 that the National Eligibility Test (NET) has been rescheduled to June 18 to prevent any overlap with the UPSC preliminary exam. Previously, the examination was slated for June 16.
According to the statement by UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar, the decision to shift the UGC-NET from June 16 (Sunday) to June 18, 2024 (Tuesday) was made in collaboration with the National Testing Agency (NTA) due to feedback from candidates regarding the clash with the UPSC prelims. The NTA will conduct the UGC-NET in OMR mode nationwide on a single day.
The UGC-NET exam assesses the eligibility of candidates for (a) the granting of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as assistant professor, (b) appointment as assistant professor and enrollment in a PhD program and (c) enrollment in a PhD program only in Indian universities and colleges.
