UK immigration figures show a decline, with 1.2 million people immigrating in the year leading up to June 2024, 86% of whom were non-EU nationals. Indian nationals experienced a 54% rise in student visas granted in June 2023, but restrictions introduced in January 2024, which limited dependents and visa-to-work transitions, resulted in a 19% drop in student visas and a 69% decrease in dependent visas by September 2024.
India remained the largest non-EU source of immigrants (2.4 lakh), followed by Nigerians, Pakistanis, Chinese, and Zimbabweans. Key reasons for non-EU immigration included work, study, asylum, and family.
University admissions and visa-related metrics also declined significantly, with Indian candidates experiencing a 32.55% drop in CAS issuance for UK courses.
