As per Studyportals, a survey carried between 15-22 March 2019, the data shows that the United Kingdom has become “less attractive” as a study destination because of Brexit.
The study was carried amid 1,418 international students looking to study for an English-language taught degree.
Amond 300 European Union or European Economic Area (EU/EEA) respondents, 63.7% considered the United Kingdom “less proffered” as a study destination.
However, among 1,100 non-EU/EEA students, only 21.3% consider the UK a “less attractive” study abroad option.
Why is UK Attractive for Education?
The United Kingdom is the second most popular destination in the world for international students. The country offers a rich heritage and contributes to a great learning environment. The universities also take a strong international student experience very seriously. The University OF Oxford, University of Cambridge, King’s College London are some of the prominent ones, to name a few.
Reasons behind the decrease in the study at the UK
After the Brexit, EU/EEA students are doubtful about the ease of travel and the possibility of work after studying in the UK.
The outcome of the survey was presented at the International Higher Education Forum (IHEF) 2019 in London on 27 March, organised by Universities UK International.
What is BREXIT?
As per wiki, Brexit is the withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU). Following a referendum held on 23 June 2016 in which 51.9 per cent of those voting supported leaving the EU, the invocation of Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union started a two-year process which was due to conclude with the UK’s exit on 29 March 2019, a deadline which was later extended to 12 April 2019.
