Uttar Pradesh allocated Rs 740 crore in grants for higher education -

Uttar Pradesh has been awarded the highest grant nationwide, totaling around Rs 740 crore, under various categories of the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan. This substantial funding aims to enhance research standards in the state’s universities, promote innovation and renovate outdated infrastructure in established educational institutions.

The designated grant aims to improve infrastructure to support digital educational approaches in Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, it aims to expand higher education opportunities in the state, especially for socially disadvantaged groups.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan Yojana, funds have been allotted for the establishment of new government model colleges in underserved areas to fulfill identified minimum Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) needs.

These funds will be used to increase enrollment of women, minority, SC/ST/OBC communities in higher education institutions. Specifically, 6 universities in Uttar Pradesh have been granted funds under the Multi-Disciplinary Education and Research University (MERU) initiative, out of the 26 identified nationwide.

Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University in Ayodhya, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University in Bareilly, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University in Gorakhpur, Bundelkhand University in Jhansi, Lucknow University in Lucknow, and Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut are among the recipients. Each of these universities has been allocated Rs 100 crore for the initiative.

In line with the nationwide effort to strengthen universities, eight universities in Uttar Pradesh, out of the 52 identified nationwide, have secured funding. Among them are Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University in Agra, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University in Kanpur, Mahatma Shakumbhari University in Saharanpur, and Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith in Varanasi, each receiving an allocation of Rs 20 crore.

Furthermore, Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University in Jaunpur, Prof. Rajendra Singh (Rajju Bhaiya) University in Prayagraj, Jananayak Chandrashekhar University in Ballia and Siddharth University in Kapilvastu have also received substantial grants.
