A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between IIT Madras and Walmart Global Tech (WGT) to catalyze research in diverse fields of technology while emphasizing on training programs and enhance talents. The partnership will facilitate the continuation of education to Walmart associates and join hands for their CSR activities for their operation in India. As a product of this partnership, WGT associates and IITM students will work jointly on research projects enabled by the Centre for Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR) at IITM.
Suresh Kumar, the global CTO AND CDO of Walmart.Inc states that “WGT develops and manages the foundational technologies on which our customer experiences around the world are built. We are a human-led, tech-empowered company, and our talented associates in India are critical to driving Walmart’s global businesses and leading the next retail disruption. Many of our associates, including me, sharpened our engineering and analytical skills while studying at IITM. Our association with IITM will help us further empower our teams, collaborate on digital innovation, and strengthen the education ecosystem in India.”
The MoU was signed in the presence of Mahesh Panchagnula, the dean, alumni and corporate relations of IITM, CTO, CDO of Walmart and IITM alumnus Mr Suresh Kumar and Judith Ravin, U.S consul general at Chennai.
WGT is also gearing up to work with IITM entrepreneurs incubated in the IITM incubation cell and will also get access to training programs to enhance and sharpen their skills and place them according to the shifting dimensions of the e-commerce and retail industry.
“WGT and IITM have many areas for collaborative growth such as sustainability, AI, and energy engineering. We are keen to grow this into an impactful partnership to benefit a broad cross-section of stakeholders including students and faculty members of IIT Madras.” professor Panchagnula was heard as stating.
