The European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) has announced applications for its Short-Term Internship Programme 2026, offering students and recent graduates an opportunity to gain hands-on experience at one of the world’s leading scientific institutions in Switzerland.
The fully onsite internship, based in Geneva, allows selected candidates to work on real-world projects across a wide range of disciplines, including science, engineering, information technology, data science and administrative functions. Interns will collaborate with expert teams and contribute to CERN’s ongoing work in cutting-edge research and innovation.
The programme is open to candidates currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a post-secondary, technical, administrative or engineering programme. Applicants must be nationals of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State and should have a good working knowledge of English or French. Students are required to remain enrolled as full-time students for the duration of the internship.
Interns are expected to support professionals in daily operations, assist with ongoing projects, apply new tools and methodologies relevant to their field, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in an international work environment.
The internship duration ranges from one to six months. Selected candidates will receive a monthly allowance of 1,587 Swiss Francs (approximately Rs 1.8 lakh). Paid leave is applicable for internships lasting four months or longer.
Applications must be submitted through the CERN Careers portal. Candidates are required to upload a CV in English or French along with any relevant supporting documents. The deadline to apply is January 11, 2026, at 23:59 Geneva time (7:30 pm IST).
CERN internships are widely regarded as a gateway to global careers in science, technology and administration, offering participants valuable professional exposure within an internationally respected research ecosystem.
