Delhi University has directed its campuses, departments, and centres to step up security after receiving an alert from the Union Ministry of Education. The advisory, based on a threat assessment by central security agencies, warned that higher education institutions remain “strategically vulnerable” and could face possible sabotage attempts.
The circular, issued on July 29 by the joint registrar (estate), refers to a ministry letter dated July 14. It instructed all universities to secure physical assets, coordinate closely with local police, and maintain strict vigilance.
SECURITY GUIDELINES FOR DELHI UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES
As part of its preventive measures, Delhi University (DU) has laid down detailed dos and don’ts for deans, heads of departments, directors, centres, and caretakers across the North and South Campuses.
Offices must seek prior approval before opening on weekends or beyond official working hours.
No office can function more than half an hour before or after regular timings without notifying the estate section or security cell.
All visitors must present valid ID cards, and their entry will be recorded in the visitor register.
Parking of vehicles beyond regular hours or on holidays will not be allowed without prior clearance.

The notification also highlighted a spike in theft cases reported from North Campus buildings, prompting authorities to take additional steps to protect university property and ensure student safety.
