Following the release of recent exam results, aspiring medical students may be left wondering what to do next and what possibilities remain available to them. Starting medical school in 2023 is still an option.
St. George’s University (SGU) School of Medicine offers a four-year Doctor of Medicine degree program and five, six, and seven-year Medical Degree Pathways. It is the largest provider of doctors into first-year US residencies for the last nine years, with over 1000 US residencies in 20231. SGU is still accepting applications for its August intake, starting in Grenada, in the Caribbean, and interested students can apply here.
In addition, SGU, in association with the Ramaiah Group of Institutions in India, offers high school graduates (10+2) the opportunity to obtain an MD through a 5-Year Medical Degree Pathway without requiring NEET. Students can still apply here for the Pathway starting September 2023, starting in Bangalore India.
Kshitij Kajale, SGU Student, class of 2025, comments on the transition to Grenada after spending a year at Ramaiah, “The preclinical year in Ramaiah has set me up for success in mastering what comes next. I studied with and made lifelong connections with other talented and ambitious individuals on their path to becoming successful doctors.” He further describes his experience at SGU, “The overall experience of connecting with other students on campus has been positive and enriching. It has provided me with opportunities to broaden my perspectives, learn from different cultures, and form lasting relationships with students from all over the world.”
Both SGU and the Ramaiah Group of Institutions have medical schools established over 40 years ago with a long history of educating medical students. With applications still open, it is not too late for students to start their journey of becoming a doctor in the US or the UK.
As the medical school graduating the largest number of students per year, SGU places the largest number of graduates into residency programs each year, based on internal SGU graduate/expected graduate and residency placement data as of June 2023
