The Kenyan teacher, Peter Tabichi, who was awarded for Global Teacher Prize 2019 has qualities like a sage where he disposes 80% of the salary for the development of the school and the students. Mr. Tabichi, has won the $1 million prize for the world’s best teacher, beating 10,000 other nominations from 179 countries.
Tabichi, who chose the darker side to be developed, worked for a poor area as a teacher where 95 percent of his students even had trouble getting one-time breakfast. Mr. Tabichi took it as his personal mission and saw that the children at Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School in Pwani village meet the basic needs along with proffering highest quality of education in terms of practical training and exposure.
Right from winning Kenya Science and Engineering Fair 2018 to receiving an award from The Royal Society of Chemistry, the students under his guidance proved their mettle through various innovations such as discovering a measuring device for blind and deaf people. They also experimented generating electricity from the local plant life.
This vast amount of contributions in a student’s life and his efforts to bring peace among the ethnic groups showcases his immense interest in mitigating the problems at social levels.
