From the role of a housewife to making her debut in the writing world, the journey had not been an easy for her. Terming writing as a tool to attain peace and quiet, Raisha also expresses her concern on gender disparity adding that female centric films have played a great role in bringing a social awareness.
Here’s a recent chat with the young lady on her view of beauty, feminism, writing & on her future plans
How do you see writing? As a hobby, a passion or a full time occupation?
Well, it started as a way to vent. To bring out those deep seated feelings and emotions. Would love to make it a full time job someday.
What’s the most difficult thing about writing a characters?
I strongly believe that it’s the observation of any character that matters the most. The more I observe the more I try to get it right. Having said that, men are from Mars and women are from Venus so you never know maybe someday I will hit bullseye!
So, how challenging was writing while managing a family?
Being a mom is a full time job, both mentally and physically. But, writing is something I do for the peace and quiet. It keeps me in touch with my inner-self, so as the day retires I sit down and find my pace. I wish I could give more time to it but for now, whatever little time I get, I’m happy with that.
What do you feel about feminism in today’s point of time?
I think that it’s being able to do what you want to do without being judged or treated differently on the basis of gender. It’s actually as simple as that.
Do you feel that we as a society have grown bolder in addressing issues relating to gender disparity and who do you think is doing notable work for women empowerment?
I think movies & books leave a great impact on our generation. Any book lover would agree when I say that reading the first few pages we get an idea and feel of the book and if it’s a good book, it’s hard to put it down. Same is the case with a good film. It stays with us. Because of the audio visual impact, the scenes, the dialogues, they linger on and it’s one of the best mediums to send out a message to the millions of people who actually watch films.
Whether it was Raazi, Padman or Toilet, today female centric films are being made and appreciated because of the kind of issues they raise. It’s the awareness that will bring about the much needed change in our society.
What inspired you to begin writing?
I think we are in an era where everyone complains about how social media has taken over our lives. But I feel everything has something positive to offer, that is if we want to look at it that way. Today I open my Facebook or Instagram and I see it being flooded with upcoming authors sharing their thoughts. I feel inspired to write more and write well every single day. My all time favourite is Paulo Coelho. His simple style with so much depth is something I look up to.
What’s your idea of beauty?
Beauty for me is not about having a pretty face it’s about being nice as a person and until and unless your words your actions are not beautiful it’s just, congratulations about your face!
How much of yourself do you put into your books?
I don’t think any writer can get away with this question. Not a single emotion that hasn’t been felt by me can come up in what I write. That’s all I can say.
Your upcoming plans?
I’m actually working on my second book now. The objective is to make it light hearted and fun without compromising on the connection with the reader.
