Medical Council of India (MCI) Screening Exam which is also known as MCI Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) is a qualifying exam conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE) in India. Indian students who completed MBBS abroad in countries like Russia, China, Philippines, Georgia, Kirgizstan, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Bangladesh & other foreign countries must clear MCI Exam for Foreign Medical Graduates to get the license to practice in India.
The candidates who have passed MBBS from MCI recognized medical colleges abroad are only eligible to appear for FMGE and if these overseas candidates clear FMGE, then they would be eligible to register under the Medical Council of India or the State Medical Council. FMGE is conducted twice a year. Candidates who fail to clear the exam in one session can aspire for the next session of the FMGE exam. There is no limit on the number of attempts that a candidate can appear for FMGE. The exam has a very low pass rate and less than 10% of foreign graduates are able to qualify it. Afterwards, they try for the NEET PG seats available in India only.
The NEET PG 2021 is on 18th April,2021. The counselling will begin and during thesame, the aspirants who have done UG from India will get State as well as All India Quota but, the FMGs will not get State quota being the citizen of that state and they are only eligible for All India Quota. The Foreign graduates are completely stuck as they do not get State quota and it is very difficult for them to get a seat of their choice for PG degrees. They are hence not treated as the citizens of their home state and they are given counselling in NEET PG only on the basis of All India Quota not the State Quota.
Commenting on this Gaurav Tyagi, Founder- Career Xpertsaid,“Ihumbly request the Government of India, Health Minister, MHRD, and NMC to think over and focus on this. They should be allotted the percentage under State quota so that they should get particular domicile in the state as they are the residents of the same, they just went abroad for studies. As they don’t get State Quota it becomes difficult for them to get MS MD branches of their choice. Hence, they have to compromise in getting the courses of their choice. Due to this nearly 25,000 students are affected every year. Hence, I again request to avail them a particular state quota.”
