For the first time ever, a girl from the Naxal-hit zone Dornapal has cracked NEET and secured a seat in Ambikapur Medical College. What is the big deal about it?
Forget about being regular, no teacher dared to set foot in the Maoist-affected zone of Sukma. Given such a scenario, it was sheer will-power that moved mountain like barriers for tribal girl Maya Kashyap.
“It was my childhood dream to become a doctor,” said Maya.
Only 3,000 students enrolled in primary education in Dornapal. In fact, there is no teacher to teach in the schools like the one in which Maya studied. Due to lack of proper teaching and guidance, there are hardly any students in these Maosit affected zones who make it to the high schools, college of course is a far away dream for these children.
Given such a scenario, securing 154th rank among STs and being at number 12,315 overall in the state in NEET, become quite a big deal. When asked how did she do it, Maya said, “For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a doctor. After my father died, it became almost impossible to continue with mu studies. But I never gave up. I could not give up on my dream.”
