Students harnessing technology against the outbreak:
A device called ‘Airlens Minus Corona’ developed by IIT and AIIMS alumni Debayan Saha and Shashi Ranjan. It will travel in city to sterilize the surface in public places that are the means of spreading the disease. It destroys the virus using charged or ionised water droplets through Corona Discharge by the process of oxidation.
Another student from SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur has come up with an app that provides live information called CoronApp, was developed by Anupam Tiwari, who is now an exchange student doing his startup semester in mechatronics (electrical engineering and computer science – EECS) at UC Berkley. He along with his teammates came up with this idea. It integrates COVID-19 data from Johns Hopkins University, the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization (WHO), and a Twitter feed provides the latest curated news.
Company Take:
- Google in association with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has updated its homepage with “Do The Five” message by honouring doctor Ignaz Semmelweis, a Hungarian physician called the “saviour of mothers” or “father of infection control”.
- The testing kit developed by Trivitron Healthcare and Mylab Discovery Solutions is waiting for the approval. Roche Diagnostics India testing kit got the approved by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) to commercialize the kit.
- BlinkIN, a Bengaluru-based intelligent visual-assistance company, assists the engineer to install air ventilation systems in Wuhan hospital by sharing live video and photo with the remote experts eliminating all risk to send additional engineers to the site. All the assistance is provided with augmented technology and live pointer.
Government Take:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also urged people to share technology to fight against the disease. With respect to the outbreak, the Government of India has come up with “COVID 19 Solution Challenge”, if found feasible government will help to scale up.
