“Write Local.Think Global” : Mr Richard McCracken
(ICFAI conducts leadership conversations on the topic “Case Studies: Business Practice, Research & Learning”)
“Case studies benefit the triumvirate of business practitioners, academic leaders and students. Through case studies local success stories in India can be shared with a global community of researchers, policy makers, students and academia, said Mr Richard McCracken, Director, The Case Centre, UK at 55th WiseViews Leadership Conversations conducted by ICFAI on May 13, 2022 at 7.30 pm. Mr Richard McCracken delivered a talk on “Case Studies: Business Practice, Research & Learning”.
Mr. McCracken further said “ Research paper primarily labours on the effort that went into researching the subject and provides detailed information. On the contrary, cases do not provide the ending thereby creating the academic curiosity for problem-solving and embracing the ambiguity.”
Mr. McCracken is a global leader in the forefront of promoting case method across leading business schools in the world. He observed that academic theory can be built by dealing with problems of the real world and not by studying the gaps in literature. “Business Schools must address real issues such as sustainability, climate change, inclusion, diversity, business ethics and impact of emerging technologies on society” said Mr. McCracken.
Mr. McCracken believed Cases are for life. Students who have been part of the case studies in their business schools remember those scenarios for a long time after they have graduated. Often they come back to school or refer to the cases in a world/passionate way whenever they encounter a similar scenario.
Answering to a query in the Q & A session, Mr. McCracken Said “Craft professionals from the domains of tech, multi media, video presentation et al need to understand the nuances of academic design. They get to play leadership role in creating new formats of case method.”
The conversation was moderated by Prof. R Prasad, Director – Academic Wing, ICFAI Group and Prof. Sudhakar Rao, Director – Branding, ICFAI Group.
About 250 participants including researchers, faculty, working professionals, and students attended the webinar which was also live streamed on the facebook.
