As per the reports, the fee hike for the students living in hostel is planned to be doubled making it Rs 55,000-61,000 from current Rs 27,000-32,000 thousand annually.
The fee hike, set to roll out from the next academic year is now a matter of discussion among student and parent community of JNU.
The new fee includes a multi-fold hike in the room rent. While the previous charges were Rs 10/20 per month, it is estimated to now cost them Rs 300/600. Also, a new service charge of Rs 1,700 per month has been added, overall resulting in Rs 2000-2300.
Other central universities like Allahabad University, Visva Bharti University, and Jamia-Millia Islamia are much cheaper.
