According to TRAI data released on Friday, Reliance Jio was subscribed by many customers as compared to other wireless telecom subscribers. In December 2017, Jio added a little over 8 million subscribers against 2.43 million by Idea Cellular and 1.5 million by Vodafone India. However, Bharti Airtel’s customers were added by just 5.76 lakh, more than BSNL.
A big shift could be seen by the telecom operators as they continued to prefer five major functional ones. Tata, Telenor, and Aircel lost as much as 7.3 million subscribers in December.
In November, RCom after its announcement to close 2G and 3G wireless operations, Jio was being subscribed by many customers. In November, Jio added 6.11 million customers while Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea added 4.34 million, 2.7 million and 3.19 million, respectively.
In December, Jio marked its market share to 13.71 percent from 13.08 percent at the end of November. The market share of Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea saw a marginal decline in December against November. According to the experts, cheap tariff rates, handsets, and Jio’s marketing strategy has to boost up its market. In comparison to other providers, Jio’s quality of service has been improved.
