The decision from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is coming up for B.Tech Course in Artificial Intelligence and data science to meet the rising demand of skilled professionals. In 2017, the global AI market is expected to be worth approximately $2.42 billion, which will grow to be worth $18 billion by 2022.
AICTE chairman Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe announced the information at a conference organised by Education Promotion Society for India (EPSI) in Chennai on Saturday. But for time being these courses will be available in a specialization format instead of a full-fledged degree.
On the same Vivek Jain, Chief Business Officer – Shiksha.com, Naukri FastForward said, “This is a big leap forward for the Indian education system, especially for the technical students. Till date, in most of the institutes, AI exists just as a subject which was taught only for a semester with less emphasis on practical experience and industry exposure. With this step, students would be able to gain in-depth know-how of this vast subject and compete with the best in the world. Emerging technologies like the IoT, Blockchain and Cybersecurity as specializations will give our students an advanced edge and a solid foundation. Moreover, it is remarkable to see that institutes like IIT Hyderabad launched BTech in AI, IIT Mandi introduced BTech in Data Science and NSIT came up with BTech in Computer Science and AI this year. AICTE has recognized the demand for specialized skills and we believe it is a step in the right direction.”
The course will be rolled out soon and faculty member will be trained accordingly. Faculty who have joined recently has been made mandatory to complete the training to teach the course and for the senior faculty member, the training is mandatory for promotion.
Different community of education sector are expecting full-fledge B.tech courses in Artificial Intelligence and data science like subjects to make students industry-ready. Based on Nasscom-Zinnov report, By 2021, the total AI and BDA job openings in India is estimated to go up by 2,30,000.
