Examination gets cancelled by Mumbai university because of heavy rains after Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced holiday for colleges and schools.
Red alert is issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Mumbai regarding extreme heavy rainfall warning. As Tansa Lake flooded, authorities are prompting to extend holiday in Raigad district. Safety measures are taken into consideration as city faces acute weather conditions.
Mumbai University has taken a dynamic step due to heavy rains by cancellation of all examinations that are to be conducted today that is 27th July all across city. This decision has been made to be sure about safety of staff as well as students. University is about to schedule new examination dates. Such a decision has been taken as IMD has issued red alert in Mumbai with warning of heavy rainfall within metropolis and suburban areas.
Based on warning by IMD, BMC announced holiday for all private and government colleges and schools on 27th July that is today. Administrator and municipal commission of BMC, Iqbal Singh Chahal requested citizens to stay indoors and alert, while paying attention to instructions from administration. Red alert designate possibility of acute weather situations and advises for precautionary measures.
As per rainfall data given by IMD, this can be seen that moderate to heavy rainfall is experienced by Mumbai in last few days. One of the primary water sources of city, Tansa Lake got flooded because of continuous downpour. Such condition led authorities for extension of holiday announcement to colleges and schools in Raigad district also.
With well-being and safety of citizens, faculty and students that is of utmost concern, such precautionary measures had been essential in avoiding any possible risks related to wintry weather. BMC requested all citizens to stay at their homes and decision taken by Mumbai University of examination postponement exhibit manageable approach in dealing with such disastrous weather conditions.
