On Wednesday, March 22, Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan conducted a brainstorming session regarding the recent developments in accreditation and ranking systems in HEIs or “Higher Education Institutions”. This session was also supposedly held to shed light on the current reformative steps that could be possibly taken for further improvement of pan-Indian HEIs. Several officials including former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Dr Radhakrishnan K Koppillil were present besides other senior officials from University Grants Commission (UGC), National Education Technology Forum (NETF) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Through several tweets following the session, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has shared that the system of assessment, accreditation and ranking of the Higher Education Institutions needs to be further fine-tuned to be more “accountable, transparent, objective, and method-driven.”
The Minister also shared that in alignment with the vision of NEP 2020 (National Education Policy), different parameters that focus on the easiest ways of propagating business in the several categories of institutions were discussed. According to the tweets, this reformative measure may aid in the students taking more informed choices regarding institutions or programs of study that they pursue. It also added that the brainstorming session concluded with the decision of inviting further online suggestions from the public domains.
