In today’s competitive world, students want to give an early start to their careers because of which internships have become highly popular among school students too. Students are aware that just having good academic performance is not enough to make them stand out. They understand that internships add valuable experience in their resume which goes a long way by putting them at an advantage over their peers during the college application process especially. For example, Farheen Naqvi, a class 12 student of Delhi Public School, Srinagar, dreamt of getting an admission in one of the top universities in the world for her undergraduate education. She understood that in order to make her application stand out, she needed more than just academic calibre. After contemplating several options, she finally decided to do an internship.
By the end of her internship, Farheen was able to prepare profiles of 19 colleges and write six articles for various competitive exams. The whole experience was packed with learning for her. She learned a lot about various colleges offering diverse courses and picked up new skills along the way. She had a rich internship experience which added new skills and valuable work experience to her resume. It inspired her so much that she decided to pursue more internships from then on. Just like her, any student can take up an internship and add value to his or her resume. Here is a brief about few internships which school students can pursue and do not require any complex skill.
NGO or Volunteering
NGOs offer a lot of volunteering opportunities to students. You can volunteer for various organizations and directly or indirectly give back to the society by helping with environment conservation, teaching the underprivileged, helping the elderly, etc. Volunteering often requires you to perform a variety of tasks which helps you polish your soft skills and learn new skills too. You get a sense of achievement and along with that, add an NGO internship experience in your resume which says a lot about your character when you are applying for higher studies or a job.
Content writing
School students with good writing skills and a creative mind can go for content writing internships. Content writing requires you to research well about the topics and write quality content on them. With plentiful topics to write on, learning opportunities are abundant in content writing. For instance, one day you have to write a biography of a famous scientist and on some other day, you get to write an article on healthy lifestyle. This way, you not only improve your writing skills but also learn a great deal about various things which could include any topic (science and technology, political issues, lifestyle, philosophy, etc.
Social media marketing
Nothing could be more exciting for the students than having work responsibilities which involve extensive use of social media. An internship in social media marketing requires you to promote a company and its services on various social media handles. You have to think of new and creative ideas to engage your existing and prospective customers along with marketing your company.
Sales and marketing
Internships in sales and marketing simply require you to have good communication and interpersonal skills to convince the customers to try the services or products offered by your company. These internships polish your soft skills and can be your first step towards a career in management.
Operations
Another internship for students who aspire to make a career in management is an operations internship. These internships mostly include general management work involving process/project management (to make sure everything is going as per the plan). While doing this internship, you get to interact with a variety of people and manage multiple tasks.
