In Thiruvananthapuram, the State Higher Education Council has decided to explore the option of changing the system of 2 months holidays in the summer in colleges. The Council is thinking of introducing a split holiday.
On Tuesday, the Council planned to make a panel of university pro-Vice Chancellors to analyze the feasibility of the change. It is mentioned that the universities might prefer to split the vacation of April and May to November and May. Raveendranath, the Education Minister informed that the government has decided to set up a separate campus and a building called ‘Unnati Bhavan’ for the council.
The Council has also decided to constitute a panel to study the problems faced by the doctoral students of the universities in the state. Following the introduction of the UGC’s Ph.D. regulations, the research opportunities have evidently declined in Kerala. The panel will prepare a report to be submitted to the UGC for revision in the regulations.
