The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) held its 56th Convocation, at the Convocation Hall of IIT Bombay 11 August 2018. Narendra Modi, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, was the Chief Guest and delivered the Convocation Address. The ceremony was attended by the Hon’ble Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD), Shri Prakash Javadekar, Governor of Maharashtra Shri CH. Vidyasagar Rao, and Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis.
A total of 2,621 degrees and 380 PhDs were awarded in the convocation. The degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) was presented to Dr Romesh T. Wadhwani, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Symphony Technology Group for his contributions as a technologist.
The PM has also unveiled the plaque for the new building of the Department of Energy Science & Engineering and Centre for Environmental Science & Engineering. He also visited the technology exhibition organised by the Office of Dean (R&D), IIT Bombay.
