Very soon in a few months, you could imagine yourself using a device at your doorsteps to sanitize the items and currency notes before bringing in.
Yes, the team of researchers at IIT Ropar have developed a trunk shaped device fitted with UV radiation to sanitize the items before bringing in.
The device would be available at a cost of Rs 500 once it gets commercialized.
The device takes about 30 minutes to sanitize and the researchers suggest 10 mins of time before using the items.
Naresh Rakha, Senior Scientific Officer at IIT Ropar said, “The fight against COVID-19 will not just end with social distancing. In future, it will be extremely important to cautious with everything possible.”
“And so, we have developed a device which looks like a trunk in our home, and we recommend it to be placed at doorsteps. While some wash vegs with hot water, it might not be possible to do the same with currency notes and wallets. So, this is a common sanitization solution for everything.”
Rakha also advised not to look directly at the light inside the trunk as it can be harmful.
