As many as 23 male students across India scored a perfect 100 in the first session of JEE Main results announced by the National Testing Agency on February 14, with the highest from Telangana. Among them, seven are from Telangana, three each from Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, two each from Delhi and Haryana, one each from Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka. In 2023, 20 students were on the list of perfect scorers in the first session.
According to the merit list, while no female student featured in the top scores list, Dwija Dharmeshkumar Patel from Gujarat bagged the top spot among girls with a score of 99.99.
With the first session results out, students have a chance to improve their scores in the second session of JEE Main to be held from April 4-15. The National Testing Agency (NTA) would be announcing the ranks by taking into consideration the best of the two NTA scores.
In the first session from January 27 to February 1, 2024, a total of 11.7 lakh students took the exam, an uptick from last year’s 7.69 lakh. Over the past five years, the first session of JEE Main 2024 saw the highest registration of 12.2 lakh students up from 8.72 in 2023.
Rishi Shekhar Shukla, one of the seven toppers from Telangana and son of ISRO scientists, said he was ‘sure about the result’. Shukla, who has been aiming for a seat in IIT Bombay for Computer Science programme, wants to pursue a career in research and innovation. Tanish Reddy, a topper from Andhra Pradesh, said he has been preparing since Class 8 and studied 13 to 14 hours a day. Tamil Nadu’s Aradhana R scored 99.99 to become the topper in the Scheduled Caste category while Telangana’s Jagannadham Mohith with 99.99 topped in the Scheduled Tribe category. Shaik Suraj from Andhra Pradesh, Mukunth Prathish S from Tamil Nadu, Gajare Nilkrishna Nirmalkumar from Maharashtra and Himanshu Thalor from Rajasthan were toppers in the Other Backward Classes category with a perfect score of 100.
