Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Union Minister of Human Resource Development (MHRD), chaired a meeting with all the Vice Chancellors of 40 Central Universities (CUs) through Video Conferencing today. The Minister directed all the universities to take care of the students, faculty and the contractual staff of the universities and ensure that they do not face any problem.
Prof. E. Suresh Kumar, Vice Chancellor, The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), participated in the conference and explained to the Hon’ble Minister about the measures the EFLU is implementing during the coronavirus crisis in the country. Prof. Suresh mentioned that the University is conducting online teaching for all regular courses through Google Classroom and Skype, and nearly 90 percent students are attending the online classes. Presently, there are 88 foreign students and 4 Indian students on the Campus and all of them are provided boarding facility and regular health check-ups.
The Vice Chancellor stated that the EFLU introduced University Social Responsibility (USR) in 2017 and started USR Endowment Fund in 2020 to help the society directly. EFLU launched a radio campaign on the preventive measures to be taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with the help of the Fund.
EFLU appointed a Counsellor to address the mental health related issues of the community and a COVID-19 Task Force had been set up to address the problems during the lockdown period.
The Union Minister appreciated the efforts taken by the EFL University and other universities and directed them to continue the exemplary work in the time of crisis.
