A Master’s Program in Development Studies has been launched by the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad in order to adopt an interdisciplinary approach to study development. The Liberal Arts Department of the college is offering the course and from May 4, 2019, the applications will be available on the Institute website (https://www.iith.ac.in/). By June 4, 2019, the applications will close. This particular course opens up several career paths and some of them are:
- Development practice in grassroots organizations
- Employment in national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
- Donor agencies and the corporate sector (corporate social responsibility)
- It will help students interested in pursuing a career in Civil Services or the academia
Department of Liberal Arts, Head, IIT Hyderabad, Dr Haripriya Narasimhan, said that with this interdisciplinary approach, the course will offer a number of ways in which the Development discourse is adapted to the ever-changing fabric of human life. The different courses in this two-year program come from disciplines of Anthropology, Development Studies, Economics, Psychology & the Humanities.
There will be a total of 48 credits of taught courses and 12 credits for dissertation in their final semester. Students are supposed to do sixteen courses over three semesters, each course worth three credits. After one year of course work, they will have to do an internship in the summer.
