The Punjab University in Chandigarh has made provisions, allowing female students to take menstrual leaves starting from the upcoming semesters in the academic year 2024-25. This decision was approved by the vice chancellor. Female students are entitled to one day off per calendar month during teaching where teaching has taken place for at least 15 days. They can take a maximum of four days off per semester, with these days restricted to teaching days.
Students must complete a form at the department office to request leave, which must then be approved by the chairperson/Director. According to the official notice, leave will be approved based on self-certification by the student and must be applied for within five working days of the absence.
The notice also states that the total number of lectures attended by the student at the end of each month will include lectures delivered on the day of leave. Additionally, students are allowed to apply for only one day of leave per month, which cannot be divided over multiple days.
Furthermore, leaves cannot be taken during any examinations.
