The University Grants Commission has plans to hire industry experts as full time or part time faculty members in central universities an official added. These faculties will not be required to provide a PhD or a NET certificate under this scheme.
Special positions like Professor of Practice or Associate Professor of Practice will be created for this purpose. The central universities will hire professors on a full time or a part time basis according to their needs.
Retired professionals will also get an opportunity to work under this scheme and will be able to work till 65. This discussion was a part of the UGC-chairman and vice chancellors meeting on Thursday. There are plans of a portal being opened (a single point of admission) through which everybody willing to apply to a university can apply.
According to Professor Abha Dev Habib,” the government is “freeing itself of the pressure of giving jobs to qualified teachers on a permanent basis,” she critiqued.
Aishe Ghosh, JNU students Union President, rebuked the government by stating “A step towards dismantling higher education.”
According to the present UGC mandate, a Professor or an Associate Professor requires a PhD degree to teach.
